Hawthorne Valley Farm is a long-standing successful certified organic and biodynamic farm located in Ghent (Harlemville), NY. Since 1972, they have been producing high quality, biodynamic and organic foods while providing farm-based learning experiences for children and adults. Their 400-acre farm includes dairy cows, vegetables, a creamery, organic bakery, sauerkraut cellar, and more.

Our day on this diverse farm will begin with a tour that will last about 1.5 hours followed by a sensory exercise dealing with food and the palate. The exercise is one that Slow Food International has been using at their biennial event, Terra Madre.
This exercise helps connect the consumer/eater more intimately to their food resulting in a more pleasurable experience. During this exercise, we will also be given a taste of the foods produced on the farm from their 3 major production areas which are primarily dairy products, lacto-fermented foods, and baked goods.
As we wrap up the day’s activity around 1:00 PM, we can all head over to the farm store to purchase and/or consume any of their wonderful products.
The Farm Store is a full-line natural foods store open 7 days a week. It has grown to a full-line organic/natural foods and grocery store that will meet many of your household shopping needs.
Hawthorne Valley Farm strives to offer as many locally grown or produced fruits, vegetables, grocery products, and household items as possible and are committed to supporting our local farmers and artisans. They carry hot food, cold sandwiches, soups and salads from their organic deli, as well as , items from their organic bakery and the creamery
In keeping with Slow Food’s idea of linking the pleasure of food with a committment to community and the environment, we would like for you to join us on this tour of Hawthorne Valley Farm. Reservations are a must since space is limited!
Please RSVP to: Rich Vergili at firstname.lastname@example.org
We will meet at Hawthorne Valley Farm at 327 County Route 21C, Ghent, NY 12075
