On Tuesday, September 15th at 5:30 PM, Slow Food Hudson Valley steering committee members will be at the Stockade Tavern located on Fair St. in Kingston to greet and meet members to share a seasonal beverage reflecting a local ingredient in a cocktail.
Sun Gold tomatoes brought from a local garden will be used to feature a significant variation on the Bloody Mary cocktail, “the Pink Stag”, created by Paul Maloney, owner of the tavern. This cocktail has so much more character and is worth the visit just to taste this magnificent play on the original drink. The garnish will be a homemade pickled dilly bean. The vodka will be “Peace Vodka” produced by Catskill Distilleries.
We will gather at the back of the bar area to chat and imbibe in this libation. I am sure the folks at Stockade will share their recipe with you since I am sure many will want the formulation. I can speak to experience, it is special. I hope you can join us and discuss yet other ways local ingredients can be incorporated in ways we may not have thought of before.
We can also briefly discuss the growth of artisan distilleries in the valley that are now using so many local crops to produce their spirits. We will canvas the group as to their interest in Slow Food hosting another event at one of the many new distilleries.
We will be encouraging attendees to consider joining Slow Food Hudson Valley and Slow Food USA. We will have stickers, posters, decals and buttons for those that are interested in Slow Food and its mission.
